Tapping health and happiness into my life

Sally’s anger towards her parents - The main block to her weight loss and underlying anxiety to her binge smoking & drinking

May 15th, 2009

Sally came for her first appointment about two months before Christmas 2008. In her early twenties, she was working locally with children and wanted to loose weight. Rapidly, it became evident that we were going to have to work on the unresolved anger that she was holding towards both her parents, but mainly towards her mother.

Sally had had a very unhappy upbringing with her parents who separated when she was only 10 years. The situation was made even more painful by the fact that her mother had a tendency to control and manipulate people in her entourage, including Sally. Sally was being torn between both parents, never knowing how to act to please either of them, and ultimately, feeling very responsible, guilty and angry. Her mother had always used food as her controlling tool, and Sally ended up overeating to please her mum.

Sally came to me for about 5 or 6 sessions and each time we never tapped on the problem of overeating, nor really on her relationship with food, because we had to deal with the anger first. We tapped mainly about her mother, but we also did an entire session tapping about her relationship with her dad, whom she felt had not been there to protect her from her manipulative mother.

Each week Sally was coming to see me, she had gained some more weight and was getting more and more frustrated. However, each time we could not really tap about the issue of overeating as more pressing issues of anger with different people kept arising. Sally stuck with the EFT sessions and, one by one, we tapped on each issue that was arising. All that tapping resulted in Sally realising that she herself was not responsible for everyone else’s mistakes. And that she did not have to “fix” everybody that she felt was not behaving properly.

We also tapped numerous emotional charges of various memories of when she was younger, and that were still painful to her.

One such issue was Christmas. She always had bad memories linked to Christmas, as she could not remember ever having a happy Christmas. So we tapped about this issue that was bringing some more anxiety to Sally as we were, by then, coming close to Christmas. We tapped on various aspects* of the “sad Christmases” and then used the “choice procedure”* to instil some new, happier feelings about the rapidly approaching festivities.

One by one, we tapped away the big trees in her emotional forest.

By our last session before Christmas 2008, Sally’s anger against her mother was no longer an issue. During that session we tapped about the fact that the extra fat that Sally was carrying was a protection against her mother who was using her as a punching ball. And also on the fact that she did not really need that protection anymore.

Sally went back to her home country to visit her parents at Christmas. She came back to see me for a completely different problem (a blocked ear) in February 2009.

The Sally I met then was quite different from the Sally before Christmas:

  • The first noticeable thing about her was that she had lost some weight (over 1 stone) as she had joined a famous slimming class and was enjoying every minute of it. She told me: “It is so easy to loose the weight now, and I really enjoy the recipes!“
  • Also, she said that for the first time, she had enjoyed the Christmas festivities.
  • But her main news was that she had finally managed to reestablish the relationship with her mother. Her mother no longer repulsed her (Sally had once compared her mother’s behaviours to “Hitler’s”) and she was now able to have a normal conversation with her without feeling threaten or “responsible” in any way.
  • She also told me of the positive side effects of the tapping on her smoking and drinking habits (although she never mentioned these issues to me and we never tapped directly on these problems). She told me she used to smoke socially only, but sometimes she would manage to smoke two packs (even three packs) a night, even though she didn’t smoke every day (sometimes just one cigarette a day). And the same is with her drinking habits. She used to drink a fair amount as part of her young adult life. She wanted to get rid of both bad habits but her eating issue was the main thing she wanted to deal with. She told me: “… I am 100% sure that the fact I stopped smoking and drinking is a side effect of our tapping. I just don’t drink and smoke at all even if I go for a girls night out. I don’t need it and I don’t want it anymore.”

I wanted to tell Sally’s success story and was going to ask for her permission to publish it but she beat me to it, and before I even had a chance to ask her, she told me: “If you want to tell my story on your Web site, please go ahead, because that thing with my mother is a really big thing for me!!!

Maggie’s stress related migraine gone in 5 minutes

March 16th, 2009

Maggie came to me on a Saturday evening with a terrible headache that had been troubling her all day. She had been feeling very tensed all day and her belly was also bloated and uncomfortable. We started with one full round of the basic recipe directly on the headache:

Although I have this terrible headache, I truly and deeply accept myself.

From an intensity of 10 out of 10 she went down to 7 or 8. Maggie also noticed that the headache did not feel the same anymore and had shifted slightly to the left side of her head.

We did another round on the remaining headache:

Although I still have this terrible headache, I truly and deeply accept myself.

The intensity went right down to 1 or 2.

I did one “rolling of the eyes” (please visit www.tap2heal.com for more info on this specific tapping technique) to “cap” it and Maggie said her migraine had completely vanished.

I wanted to find out a bit more about the origin of the migraine. Maggie told me that it was stress related due to an unusual situation at work. Maggie manages a team of nurses and, due to industrial actions, her team was being asked to perform tasks for which they had had no training. As a result, Maggie was extremely anxious that the wrong message would be conveyed to the public and that she would ultimately be blamed for it. She had a certain amount of anger towards her hierarchy which, in some ways, were imposing this impossible situation on her and her team. We tapped on the fear she had of messing up using the “choice procedure”:

Although I am afraid of messing up, I choose to remain calm and confident.

Incidentally we used another (“stronger”) word than messing (beginning with “f”) as it felt more appropriate here. That stronger word also enabled Maggie to express the anger which she felt. After that round we carried on talking and Maggie told me she was due to attend an important meeting on the following Monday. The thought of the meeting was making her literally “sick”. We did one round of the choice procedure about the meeting:

Although I am dreading the meeting on Monday, I choose to be in control.

After one round she felt much better at the idea of the meeting.

This concluded our session and when she stood up Maggie noticed immediately how much better and flatter her belly was now feeling and how much “lighter” in general she felt.

Aude’s problems with concentration and revising

February 8th, 2009

Aude came to me with a problem with concentration while revising for exams. Aude was in her early thirties and was studying to become a specialised carer for handicapped children and adults. In her final third year, she was revising for her exams as well as writing a 60 pages memoir about a compulsory 6 weeks working practise that she had just completed. Because of ill health, she had missed a lot of her schooling at the beginning of the year and had fallen behind with her studies. Faced with a huge amount of work, she just did not know where to begin and found it really difficult to concentrate on any given task.

We tapped the full EFT basic recipe on the fact that it was not her fault that she had fallen behind as well as various other aspects of the whole problem:

Although I am really behind with my studies, I accept that it is not my fault and I truly and deeply accept myself.

Although I have so much to do that I don’t know where to start, I truly and deeply accept myself.

Although I feel I am not making much progress, I recognise that I am doing as much as I can and I truly and deeply accept myself.

We also tapped on her problem with concentration:

Although I am finding it very difficult to concentrate, I truly and deeply accept myself.

I then asked her to tap on the following every time she sat down to do some revisions:

Although I am finding it very difficult to concentrate, I choose to really enjoy revising.

Although I am finding it very difficult to revise, I choose to really enjoy learning new things.

I also asked her to tap on the following every time she sat down to work on her memoir:

Although I am finding it difficult to organise my ideas for my memoir, I choose to find it really easy to write down my memoir.

Although I am finding it difficult to write my memoir, I choose to really enjoy writing down ideas.

She did these tapings every time she sat to revise or write her memoir.

2 weeks after our first session, I contacted her to check up on her progress. She sounded much more relaxed and when I asked her about her memoir, she said it was finished and in the hands of her tutor for final proof-reading before submission.

My very first blog! My very first writing in my blog!

January 30th, 2009

Hello,

I am so excited right now as I have just been approved for my very first blog. I am very new to this and I just hope you will bear with me and forgive me my inexperience in writing in such an unusual media. I am also grateful for Irishhealth for providing this great platform.

For my first posting I just wanted to explain a little bit my story and how I hope this blog will help me share with you the wonders of EFT.

About 5 years ago I discovered EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and was totally blown over with all I could do with it and all the results I was getting. I could not believe that such a gentle, non invasive technique could provide these amazing results. And what was maybe more surprising was that these results were quite often immediate and long lasting if not permanent. I used EFT personally for more than a year before I finally decided to do the basic training and then the advanced training and I became an EFT-ADV practitioner.

For me EFT had been the gateway to my new life. All my life I have been fascinated with health, self-help books/tools, alternative therapies, herbal remedies, etc. and finally, I have found something that not only can help me but with which I can also help others. Everyday, I am amazed at what EFT can do for me and others, and how it empowers people to reach their goals.

My intention in the next posts is to share with you as many of my EFT successes as I can. Maybe this way, someone out there will also get the help they need. And that will be my reward.

Keep an eye on this blog and you might be amazed yourself. In the meanwhile, happy tapping to you all!

Véro Rooney

PS: No matter how amazing my stories are, you can be sure that they are all true and based on real life people and events. I will never reveal the identities of the persons involved (unless I get their written go ahead to use their real names).
